| STUDENT DRIVER AND DRIVER WITH LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OF OVER THE ROAD EXPERIENCE |
| Sitton Motor Lines is accepting applications from new CDL holder from accredited driving schools and drivers with less than six months of Over The Road (OTR) experience. |
| I am one of the trainers here at SML, and I like to share a letter with you from one of my past students. |
Hello my name is Samuel Halcomb. At thirty years old and after years of a career battling the climates I decided to become a truck driver. With all the new changes in the laws and safety I found out there was going to be more to it than fast food and fast trucks that sounds cool. I first had to obtain a CDL from an accredited school. Anybody can read a book, take the tests and pray when taking the actual driving test. But that is not what a company is looking for when they need drivers. It took me six weeks of school in order to obtain my license. I figured I was ready to take on the open road. This is when I met Ken Inman. I spent twenty-two days on board as a trainee with Ken. That was when my real learning began. During school I was taught how to make lane changes, turns and how to shift and brake. However, Ken taught me that as a professional driver you will know when it is necessary to do these things and how to negotiate every move safely and respectfully. I learned while I was being mentored by Ken that you are not just a truck driver, you are also a public representative of the company you work for. You are your own boss and the way you use that affects not only yourself but your coworkers, other professional drivers as well as the company you work for. The time spent with Ken Inman is not only to teach you how to be a truck driver but to teach you how to be a better professional driver and to become a leader in the way that SML wants its customers and the public to view SML and their employees. I wish all drivers could have such an educating experience as I did. In the end you will feel confident on the open road and truly know whether or not this profession is for you. Thank you for your time, Samuel Halcomb |
